Yoga with Charles by the Poolside
One of the most uplifting experiences during my stay in Ocho Rios was the morning yoga sessions with Charles. Although the outdoor studio was situated near a high-traffic area by the pool, Charles skillfully guided his students in practicing mindfulness and staying present.
He led each session with grace, intention, and a calm presence. His instruction was both gentle and precise, making the practice accessible to individuals of all levels. What truly set these sessions apart were the nuggets of wisdom he shared throughout—simple yet profound reflections that stayed with me long after the yoga mats were rolled up.

Miss T’s Kitchen, a beloved local gem nestled in a lush garden setting, serves soulful Jamaican dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. A must-try is their oxtail stew, rich, tender, and slow-cooked to perfection in savory brown gravy. Pair it with rice and peas, and you’ve got a comforting island classic.
Juici Patties: A Quick Caribbean Snack
If you’re looking for a quick and satisfying snack, head to Juici Patties, where their chicken and beef patties are flaky on the outside, savory on the inside, and packed with Caribbean spices. They’re perfect for a grab-and-go treat while strolling through town or relaxing at the beach.
Jerk Chicken: A Daily Delight at Riu Ocho Rios
Every day, Riu Ocho Rios serves up jerk chicken right off the grill—a treat I couldn’t resist. I went there at least three times during my stay, and I didn’t regret it once! The spicy, smoky flavors are the perfect way to immerse yourself in Jamaican culinary traditions.
Snorkeling and Water Activities
Another must-see attraction is the famous Dunn’s River Falls. This iconic natural wonder allows you to climb a cascading waterfall, making for a thrilling and adventurous experience. Whether you’re visiting with friends or meeting new ones along the way, climbing the falls is both a physical challenge and a memorable group activity you won’t forget.
Excursion Planning: What You Need to Know Before You Go
When planning excursions to Dunn’s River Falls, Mystic Mountain, or Blue Hole, I found it easy to get around using taxis and Uber. However, during peak season (December to April), I highly recommend booking your excursions early. Tours fill up fast, and booking in advance guarantees you’ll get your preferred dates and times.
Sun Protection Tips for a Safe Jamaican Adventure
While enjoying the beautiful Jamaican sun, it’s essential to protect your skin. I used La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen SPF 60 throughout my trip, and it worked wonders! The sunscreen wasn’t greasy, didn’t leave a grayish tint, and kept my skin safe despite long hours in the sun.
